The KZNICU takes particular pride in its role as a breeding ground for cricketing excellence. Supported by a strong school structures, Pietermaritzburg and its surrounds has contributed a disproportionate number of players to the provincial sides over many decades. In this regard, no less than 90 players from Pietermaritzburg have represented the various provincial sides since 1950.

The KZNICU also boasts a highly respected developmental programme that is expanding the sport in historically disadvantaged communities. Run under the auspices of Development Manager Sibonelo Ngcobo, the programme is hailed as the best in South Africa, evidenced by Ngcobo’s recognition as the country’s top cricket development organiser.

Moreover, KZNICU is proud to bask in the reflected glory of Angela Cilliers, whose sterling efforts to promote the sport in East Griqualand, won her the KFC Mini-Cricket Coach of the Year award.
