Inland ready for Griquas at The Oval

Inland coach Grant Morgan is quietly confident that his charges will get the better of Griquas in their 3-day CSA match gets underway at The Oval tomorrow. The visitors from Kimberley have not had the best start to the 2013/14 season, and currently prop up the log after three straight losses. On the other hand, the hosts are comfortably placed in the upper part of the log after one win and two draws.
Morgan is anything but complacent about Inland’s prospects though. “Cricket is a funny game, and there’s no way we would have prepared for a match, no matter the opposition, in any other way than minimising mistake, and taking out opportunities.”
Morgan harbours high expectations of the Inland side and believes the team is starting to gel as a competitive unit. “I’m happy with progress thus far this season and I’m especially chuffed with the spirit in the camp,” he said.
Citing Inland’s last match against Free State i Bloemfontein, Morgan said the team capitalised on the conditions better than the home team did. “This tells me that the team is starting to mature as a unit and that individuals understand their roles,” he said.
Sunday’s one-day encounter promises to be a humdinger. The points gap is significanly smaller, suggesting a close tussle on a pitch that would have seen three days of cricket. If the action on the pitch is not enough to enteratin spectators, the capping ceremony to formally bestow provincial colours on the five Inland sides doing battle in the age-group competitions throughout the country certainly is.
Scheduled for the lunch break on Sunday, the ceremony is one of the high points on the KZNICU calender.
Entry to The Oval is free on all four days of cricket.
